In line with the new order, the polytechnic will hold a joint convocation for seven sets of graduates, on the school’s 35th anniversary. Graduands from 2004/2005 to 2011/2012 will attend the convocation, the rector said.
He said the convocation would witness the award of fellow to four distinguished citizens for their contributions to science education, technology, infrastructural development and general human capacity building.
On security arrangement for the event, Mr. Gyemang said about 10,000 students would take part in the convocation and all security agencies would be involved in ensuring a hitch-free ceremony, which would last three days.
The rector noted that after 35 years, the polytechnic was still faced with setbacks and numerous challenges. He decried the inadequate number of staff and infrastructure especially as students’ enrolment was on the increase.
He said in spite of everything, a lot had been achieved.
“A new classroom complex has been built at the main campus, two lecture theatre constructed at the main campus, N40 million earmarked for training of 16 lecturers at Masters and PhD levels, library books procured at the cost of N5 million, two buses, a tractor and one water tanker procured,” he listed as some of the achievements.
Others included ongoing Post-graduate studies Technical Education in conjunction with Federal University of Technology, Minna, bilateral agreement and programme exchange with Koforidua Polytechnic, Ghana, construction of permanent library complex at the main campus among

He said the school needs an entrepreneurial centre, hostel expansion, sick bay,water supply, road network, means of transportation for staff and students, new laboratories, workshops and technical drawing rooms.
Other activities of the upcoming convocation include commissioning of projects by the state governor, Jonah Jang.
The convocation and investiture of awardees would take place on 20 December.
