Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has announced that there is “no single current” case of Ebola in Nigeria. Chukwu also confirmed that wife of the late Port Harcourt doctor who treated a primary contact of the index case, Patrick Sawyer, has been discharged from the isolation ward in Lagos. The minister said she was discharged on Tuesday, adding that there was no new confirmed case of Ebola in the country.
“As of today, the total number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria stands at 19, 15 in Lagos, four in Port Harcourt. The total number of deaths from EVD in Nigeria stands at seven. Five of this died in Lagos, one in a private hospital, the index case Mr Sawyer, and the other four 4 in the isolation ward in Lagos State.
Two of the seven died in Port Harcourt, the medical doctor who died in a private hospital
and the contact, a patient in the hospital at the time the doctor was also on admission, who died in the isolation ward in Rivers state.
The total number of patients who have been successfully managed and discharged is now 10. The latest are the sister of the Port Harcourt doctor who was discharged from the isolation ward in Rivers state on September 7, 2014, and the wife of the same doctor who was discharged from the isolation ward in Lagos state, yesterday, September 9, 2014. (Please note that the 10 patients successfully managed and discharged are among the total number of 12 survivors of EVD in Nigeria.
At present, there is no single current case of confirmed EVD in Nigeria. However, a suspected case of EVD from Ile-Ife, a university student who had contact with the late Port Harcourt doctor at a naming ceremony in Port Harcourt has been quarantined and is being investigated.”

WWE's Sean O'Haire Dies Age 43 from Apparent Suicide
Former WWE wrestler Sean O'Haire has died from an apparent suicide in his South Carolina home. He was 43 years old.mO'Haire, whose real name was Sean Haire, was found unresponsive Tuesday. The official cause of death has not been released, but according to news reports, the 43-year-old Spartanburg resident took his own life. Sean Haire was last seen alive Monday afternoon. His father, John Haire, came by to check up on him the next morning at 7.30am only to find him hanging in his bedroom. No foul play is suspected.

Federal Government may have concluded plans to ban sale and widespread consumption of hides and skins(PONMO)which is a delicacy to most Nigerians.
This indication emerged Tuesday when the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product.
He said this at the 3rd joint anniversary of Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) and Nigeria Institute of Animal Science held at the University of Ibadan.
If this is achieved, he noted that livestock farmers would stand good chances of making high dollar return if the hides and skins are tanned into leather.
The minister who was represented at the occasion by the Director, Animal Production and Husbandry in the Ministry, Dr. Ademola Raji, said, ”I also commend NIAS for its advocacy and public enlightenment programs on Radio and Television that promote value addition in Livestock, as against sale and consumption of primary products alone, particularly with the issue of curtailing the widespread consumption of hides and skins as PONMO which ought to be tanned into leather for a very high dollar return to the farmer and Tanneries.
A female aide of Dr. Iyke Enemuo, the Port Harcourt doctor, who died of the Ebola virus in the Rivers State capital created apprehension at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State on Tuesday when she took ill at the university.
Our correspondent gathered that the female student had contact with the late doctor and was put under surveillance in Port Harcourt for 21 days before she was certified okay, having tested negative to the virus.
On her return to OAU to resume her studies, however, she took ill and was walked to the university’s health centre where she was admitted.
Some students told our correspondent that the lady was bleeding and showing other signs of the Ebola virus.
This was said to have caused a serious panic among the students of the university.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, told our correspondent that the university would make its findings known to the public on Tuesday night.
He said, “It is a suspicion we don’t know yet. We will make our position on it known tonight. We are still working, we are in the office now.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile Ife, Mr. Olu Bello, denied the rumour that a victim of Ebola virus was admitted to the hospital on Monday.
Bello debunked the rumour in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday.
He said, “There is no case of Ebola at the OAUTHC; nothing like that. I also heard something like that. Such rumour has been causing unnecessary tension among the people but it is not true.”
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Temitope Ilori, said a student of OAU, who was said to have had contact with the late Enemuo, had been isolated at the Obafemi Awolowo University Health Centre.
