The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Osun State University has called on Governor Rauf Aregbesola to sack the governing council of the university.
The ASUU said this in a communiqué obtained by our correspondent on Monday.
The union Chairman, Dr. Oluseye Abiona; Vice-Chairman, Abanikanda M.O; Secretary, Olaosebikan Wende; Financial Secretary, Banwo Alabi, and the Legal Adviser, Adeniyi Nasir, signed the communiqué.
The union held a congress last Thursday at the university to debunk the allegation by the council that the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Basir Okesina, was using ASUU chairman to attack the council.
The union said Abiona was not pursuing any selfish agenda nor was the VC using him.
The report read, “To say that ASUU chairman is pursuing personal interest is a manifestation of mischief or malice and a calculated attempt to divide our union. ASUU is a union of intellects, which cannot be used for pursuing personal agenda. Anybody who thinks along this direction is indeed out of tune with university administration of modern days.
“It is also very strange to read that the Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin-led Governing Council accused Dr. Abiona and others yet to be named as agents being used to perpetrate the culture of corruption when the council itself is an embodiment of fraud.
“We use this medium to call on Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Visitor to the university to caution the governing council or get them removed if they have nothing to offer the university.”
The ASUU and the Council have been at loggerheads over the allegation that the latter cancelled some academic courses, including part-time and postgraduate programmes run in the university.
